Ines Claus BE, b. 1993
Ines Claus (°1993, Antwerp, BE) studied Autonomous Drawing (Fine Arts) at KASK School of Arts in Ghent and self-publishes artist books under the imprint Claus Books. Through her work and book design, she explores the re-use of archives and self-archiving as a way to reflect on the aesthetics of different times and attitudes.
Drawing from the visual languages of fashion, advertising, urban space and product display, Claus examines how images operate as carriers of meaning and desire within contemporary consumer culture. Her works on paper and canvas function as provisional displays that question notions of value, representation and identity. Accessory objects - such as the bag, often considered secondary or decorative - are placed at the centre of the composition, functioning as vessels of meaning, identity and 'economic value'.
