Polly Huyghe Belgian
Polly Huyghe creates a playful, slightly absurd world rooted in familiar, everyday situations. She draws inspiration from the illogical elements that suddenly surface within the ordinary: unexpected shapes that stand out, small contradictions, and subtle moments of tension that usually go unnoticed. By enlarging and distorting these seemingly banal observations, her work invites a soft, humorous way of looking at reality. Polly’s eccentric colour palettes and organic forms shape a visual language that is at once quirky, bright, and thoughtful. Ordinary objects are taken out of their usual context and come to life as vivid characters. In this way, new perspectives emerge and we escape into an alternative reality.
Driven by curiosity and attentiveness, Polly makes daily sketches before working intuitively with stop-motion, papier-mâché, gouache or ceramics. Clay embodies a contradiction that fascinates her: its playful, plastic shaping stand in contrast to a fragile, static final result. This tension amplifies the sense of absurdity within Polly’s universe that feels light, vulnerable, and surprisingly recognizable.
From an early age, Polly Huyghe began creating ceramic sculptures. Rather than hosting traditional birthday parties, she organised small birthday exhibitions. In 2024, Polly graduated as an industrial engineer at the University of Ghent and is currently specialising in stop-motion film at RITCS.
