Anuk Rocha German, b. 1994

Biography

My main focus on portraiture serves me as a tool to explore identity as a fragmented, evolving condition. Bornin Germany to Bosnian parents, my work is shaped by adual sense of belonging and displacement, and by memories, symbols, and cultural references that surface intuitively during the painting process.

I paint without preliminary sketches, working in a vulnerable, instinctive state. Figures emerge as composite portraits assembled from memory rather than observation—psycho- logical landscapes rather than representations of individuals. Layers are built, erased, and reworked, mirroring the way identity is continuously constructed and renegotiated.

My background in fashion informs a strong sensitivity to surface, fabric, rhythm, and structure. Textiles and patterns function as emotional archives, carrying traces of time, experience, and the body. Through restraint and repetition, my paintings invite quiet contemplation and propose as hared space of reflection between figure and viewer.
