Overview

Dóra Benyó

°1989, Budapest (HU)
Lives and works between Brussels (BE) and The Hague (NL)

Hauntingly cinematic and emotionally charged, Dóra Benyó’s paintings collapsememory, media, and myth into layered visual stories. Working from archival photographs, film stills, andpersonal ephemera from her Grandfather who led the resistance in Hungary, Benyó filters these fragmentsthrough the painter’s touch—blurring identities, timelines, and truths.

Her body of work, spanning painting, video, and performance, is deeply rooted in both personal and politicalnarratives, exploring her connection to her motherland and its dictatorial past, and posing questions abouthow we relate to our histories and their (un)knowability.

Dóra Benyó lives and works between Brussels and The Hague. She completed a master’s degree in Fine Artsat Sint-Lukas School of Arts Brussels in 2017 cum laude, and her BA at the Royal Academy of Arts The Haguein 2012.
